Dealing with Anxiety: Knowledge of a Caring Father

“Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?” Matthew 6 verse 25

Have you ever had a near-death experience? I had one on my way to work. In a flash, a trailer with failed brakes smashed the tricycle on a lane we had just left. I was a whisker away from death. This happened in a season when I was so dissatisfied with my job and standard of living. Then, this text hit me – “Is not life more than food?”

In a nation like ours, one of the biggest worries of young people is survival. It is godly to work hard and make ends meet. However, it is never God’s will to be anxious. The best I can get with anxiety is food, not life. If I trust God for life, why do I worry about food? Which is harder to provide?

What does “your Heavenly Father” in verses 26 and 32 mean to you? Our God loves and cares for His children and will surely provide (verse 33) for them. Therefore, anxiety is a sinful fruit of unbelief. Whenever we worry, it reflects our low view of God as a responsible Father.  Above all, anxiety reveals our treasure – self-aggrandizements! The gospel transforms us to seek just one thing in all we do (verse 33). When our hearts are focused on His kingdom and righteousness, God provides all necessary resources.
